Iranian security forces on Tuesday fired tear gas in clashes with anti government protesters demanding the release of two opposition leaders in Tehran, an opposition website reported.

Kaleme.com, website of main opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi, reported that clashes erupted near the Tehran university between protesters and security forces.

It said security forces, deployed in large numbers, fired tear gas at protesters who were chanting "Ya Hossein, Mir Hossein!", referring to Mousavi.

Iran has banned foreign media from on the spot coverage of opposition protests.
