Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has congratulated Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the resounding victory of the United Progressive Alliance in the recent Lok Sabha polls and expressed his country's desire to strengthen friendly and strategic relations with India.

The Russian President also congratulated Congress President Sonia Gandhi on the election win, the Kremlin said in a statement.
In his telephonic conversation with the two leaders, Medvedev underscored that the poll outcome was an expression of confidence on the part of Indian people in the government led by Singh.
During talks on Tuesday night Medvedev and Singh stressed their firm intention to continue friendly relations between the two countries and to strengthen the multifaceted strategic partnership, the statement said.
