Obama, in his Republic day message, said that people of India should know that they have no better friend and partner than the people of the United States.

"It is in that spirit, that I also wish Prime Minister Singh a quick recovery," Obama said in his message.

Singh underwent a successful coronary by-pass surgery to overcome multiple blockages to his heart on Saturday last.

According to his doctors, the Prime Minister was doing fine. Yesterday, he was taken off the ventilator and put on liquid diet.

The President was aware of the Prime Minister's heart surgery. That is why this was included in the message, a White House official told.
