Local residents said that the attackers fired rockets on the mountainous post in the Chashma area near Miranshah, which also happens to be the administrative headquarters of the region bordering Afghanistan.
It was the second violent attack on government forces in the region since early Saturday when suspected militants ambushed a checkpoint and killed eight paramilitary personnel.
"The incident took place soon after midnight on Monday. The attackers escaped due to the darkness," Maqsood Khan, a resident, said.
Pakistani security forces have been fighting the Al-Qaeda and the Taliban suspects and their local sympathizers in Waziristan.
