PM meets Chinese counterpart

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday met Chinese premier Wen Jiabao in Singapore and the two leaders are understood to have discussed ways to expand bilateral ties.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday met Chinese premier Wen Jiabao in Singapore and the two leaders are understood to have discussed ways to expand bilateral ties.

The 30-minute meeting took place on the sidelines of the ASEAN-India summit.

The two leaders are understood to have reviewed bilateral ties and discussed ways to enhance these, particularly in the economic field.

Trade between the two countries has been growing at a rapid pace and the two nations have set an ambitious target of USD 10 billion to be achieved by 2010.

The two-way trade has already crossed the $7 billion mark.

Commerce Minister Kamal Nath and India's High Commissioner to Singapore S Jaishanker were present in the meeting.
