African National Congress veteran Mbhazima Shilowa says a national convention will be held November 2.
Shilowa says he quit the ANC to devote himself to organizing the meeting, at which delegates will also discuss electoral reforms. He says the ouster of former President Thabo Mbeki last month raised questions about whether presidents should be directly elected.
Mbeki was forced by the ANC to quit amid a power struggle within the party between him and the party's leader, Jacob Zuma.
