Aviation official Jhon Rettop says the Cessna 208B Caravan crashed into a cliff on Wednesday as it was approaching a remote airport in Papua province for landing.
He says the Spanish pilot of the Susi Air plane, which was carrying food and other supplies, not passengers, died on his way to a hospital in Timika.
The co-pilot, a New Zealander, was in critical condition. It was the second deadly crash for Susi Air in the jungle-clad mountains of Papua in several months.
