Strong quake hits western Tibet

A strong earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted western Tibet on Saturday but there is no immediate report of any casualties or damage.

A strong earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted western Tibet on Saturday but there is no immediate report of any casualties or damage.

The epicentre of the quake, which hit the border areas of Ali Rutog and Gerze of Tibet Autonomous Region, was 34.3 degrees north latitude and 81.9 degrees east longitude.

It occurred at 4:51 pm local time (2:31 pm IST), China's Seismological Monitoring Network reported.
