At least 12 people, including a woman and a child, were killed and 25 injured when a bus collided head-on with a trailer in Pakistan's Punjab province on Sunday.

The accident occurred near Shahwali in Rajanpur district when the bus, heading from Peshawar to Karachi, tried to overtake a truck on the Indus Highway, reports reaching here said.

The bus collided head-on with the trailer coming from the opposite direction and 12 people were killed instantly.

Police and paramilitary personnel helped remove the bodies and take the injured to a nearby hospital. Ten of the injured, who were in a critical condition, were later sent to Rahimyar Khan and Larkana for treatment.
