The Taliban, which took responsibility for the early morning attack, said it had dispatched two bombers, one on foot and one in an explosives-laden truck.

The Nato base was targeted last year on the eve of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

In a related incident, two US soldiers were killed in an attack by anti-government militants in Afghanistan Saturday, the US Forces said in a statement.

"Two US Forces-Afghanistan service members died following an insurgent attack in Ghazni province," the statement said, reported Xinhua.
