First Wonder Woman reactions are in! Gal Gadot’s film is spectacular, say critics
Wonder Woman is the best film in the DC Extended Universe, say the critics who shared their first reactions to the film on Twitter.hollywood Updated: May 19, 2017 10:04 IST
The first reactions to Wonder Woman, the fourth film in Warner Bros. DC Extended Universe, are out - and fans should breathe a sigh of relief because they’re all uniformly positive.
Following the negative reception to 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, Warner Bros’ superhero universe got off to an unsteady start. And with rumours swirling around that the upcoming Justice League film is in trouble (the latest reports said that the film had almost completely been reshot), Wonder Woman had a lot riding on it.
Fans would be glad to know that the moment the studio lifted the embargo on non-spoiler social media reactions, the internet was flooded with tweets from the journalists who were given advance screenings. Full reviews are still under embargo.
Critics praised the film’s tone and writing, Patty Jenkins’ direction and Gal Gadot’s performance. The Israeli actor made her first appearance as the superhero in Batman v Superman, and will reprise her role in November’s Justice League.

I loved Wonder Woman. First act's a bit slow, but it's optimistic, emotional, and *gasp* funny. Best DC movie so far.— Dave Schilling (@dave_schilling) May 19, 2017
Very pleased to report that #WonderWoman is the best DC movie since THE DARK KNIGHT. I'm already looking forward to seeing it again.— Silas Lesnick (@silaslesnick) May 19, 2017
Wonder Woman is the DC movie I've been waiting for. It's exciting, inspiring, funny, and has some truly awe-inspiring action scenes.— Germain Lussier (@GermainLussier) May 19, 2017
WONDER WOMAN: Easily my favorite DCEU film. Has the humor and heart the franchise so desperately needs. Gadot and Pine are charming as hell.— Kate Erbland (@katerbland) May 19, 2017
#WonderWoman is the best DCEU film so far. The heart of Gal Gadot's Diana powers it, and the shift from mythic into WWI story really works.— (((Eric Eisenberg))) (@eeisenberg) May 19, 2017
Loved WONDER WOMAN. She reminds me of Christopher Reeve's Superman: true north superhero w/ no angst or cynicism, which is needed right now.— Mike Ryan (@mikeryan) May 19, 2017
The most wonderful thing about WONDER WOMAN is the wonderful Wonder Woman. Gal IS Wonder Woman. Now then, about WONDER WOMAN— Josh L. Dickey (@JLDlite) May 19, 2017
Wonder Woman also stars Chris Pine, Danny Huston, Robin Wright, David Thewlis and Connie Nielsen. It is scheduled for a June 2 release.
