One of the oldest and first theatre groups to give a platform to women to perform on the Delhi stage, Three Arts Club, is bringing two of its productions to New Delhi.

Titled, Yeh Daag Daag UjaalaandParmaatma, directed by Ajay Manchanda, present the group’s take on Indian politics and current scenario.

Written by Krishan Chander in 1945 - 47, the plot of the play, Parmaatma, revolves around the challenges of contemporary society where human values, governance, ethics and morality make strange bed fellows. “The play depicts how the absence of a composite culture and a common goal has denigrated the society beyond repair,” says Manchanda.

The protagonist Paramatmaand Naradmuni shows how political leaders manipulate the system. Yeh Daag Daag Ujaalais a parody on Indian politics. Written by noted playwright Anis Azmi, the play portrays the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters and then reveals how over time their vision has been diluted by various social evils such as corruption, dowry and sexual abuse.

“The play tries to capture this betrayal and how we have moved away from what our freedom struggle stood for and the values that it epitomised,” he adds.
