Photography exhibition showcases amateur talents

A photograph, they say, is worth a thousand words.
For a week, a group of amateur photographers from around the world spoke a million during an exhibition of photographs at the Indian Habitat Centre in the national capital.
The exhibition – held from July 19 to 24 and organised by the Delhi Photography Club (DPC) – featured the works of 130 amateur photographers.
The 149 photographs put up for exhibition were shot by amateurs from India, China, Netherlands, Italy, France, Germany, England, Spain, Singapore, Spain, and the US.
The DPC, founded by photography enthusiast Virendra Shiekhavat, works as a platform for beginners and amateur photographers to hone their skills and also showcase their talents.
And talent there was aplenty as visitors bought as many as 30 photographs during the exhibition, said Shiekhavat.
He added that the price of the photographs – ranging from Rs 2500 to Rs 6,000 – is divided equally between the photographer and DPC.
The exhibition was categorised in three groups -- landscape and experimental, portrait and people, wildlife and nature.
Amataba Mazumdar, whose photographs were also put up at the exhibition, said that DPC's platform has given "wings to my dream".
Armed with a Canon 400D camera, Amitabh has travelled to places like Kerala and Jaipur to shoot his photographs which, he said, tells a story on their own.
Another participant Nidhi Agarwal began shooting with a Canon D3100 point-and-shoot camera four months ago to pursue her hobby.
A post-graduate from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Nidhi has travelled as far as Ladakh to capture the beauty of the barren Moonscape of the Himalayan wilderness.
That the exhibition was a success could be gauged from the views of a visitor Naha Sharma who said the "beautiful photographs" have inspired her to try and become a photographer herself.
Boosted by the enthusiasm of photographers, the DPC is now planning to branch out to other places like Jaipur and Ludhiana and provide photography enthusiasts with a place to meet and exchange views.
