The 'Paryavaran Jagran Yatra rally' aims to inform people about the government's apathy and negligence towards the accumulation of the toxic waste in and an around the Plant which caused worst environmental disaster of independent India 25 years ago.
"Considering the fact that the environment is a great topic of concern, an event like this would help in awakening the people. For this purpose, the students from various schools and colleges would be participating in the rally here tomorrow," said Ajay Dubey, social activist and organiser of the rally.
Dubey says awareness has to be raised on the fact that even after 25 years of the tragedy, city is a living example of a continuing disaster as the toxic waste is still lying at the Union Carbide Plant which may soon result in another accident. "It shows government's apathy and negligence," the activist said.
The rally is jointly organised by Prayatna, an NGO, and students of Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication.
