MP govt takes new year break as ministers, babus head for vacation

A large number of ministers and bureaucrats of the state government have proceeded on 'winter vacation', clubbing Christmas and New Year holidays along with their children's school holidays. About five dozen senior and a dozen ministers would remain on leave till first week of the New Year.
Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his family will visit Kamakhya temple in Guwahati on New Year's Eve. They will then proceed to visit Shirdi and return to Bhopal on January 5. Energy minister Rajendra Shukla and culture minister Surendra Patwa have planned to go abroad with their families.
Similarly, finance minister Jayant Malaiya will go to Kanha National Park along with his family, while as minister of state for school education Deepak Joshi would camp at Goosat village in his constituency.
Joshi spends this time of year in the annual celebration in Goosat, visits church on New Year's Eve and on the next day — January 1 — holds a massive feast in the village.
Like netas, most of them top bureaucrats have chosen holiday dates starting 24 December till January 4, while others have started early from 16 and 20 December till the year end.
Mandi Board managing director BM Sharma, chief executive officer of Raisen Anurag Choudhary and secretary of commerce and industries Anupam Rajan are on leave from December 24-25.
Among other who have taken leave are principal secretary to chief secretary Satish Mishra, deputy secretary Ajay Singh Gangwar, chief executive officer Jabalpur Neha Marwya and additional secretary of finance Sandeep Yadav.
Besides principal secretary industries Mohammad Suleman and principal secretary general administrative department (GAD) K Suresh has gone on leave around December 20, said a government official on the condition of anonymity.
Similarly, senior police officials, including director general of home guards Rishi Shukla, additional director generals RK Garg, Vijay Kumar and Kailash Makwana, besides additional inspector generals (Sagar) Pankaj Shrivastava, Sanjeev Shami, Varun Kapoor have proceeded on winter vacations.
On the other hand, finance department has not allowed leave for more than two days because of the quarter ending. However, leaves of senior officials have been approved, an official said.
