The bail plea of former minister Laxmikant Sharma, who is an accused in the Professional Examination Board (PEB) scam, was rejected by the court on Wednesday.
Sharma's lawyer had moved application for his bail. The former minister has been in jail ever since he was arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) on June 15.
The bail application was moved in the court of the additional district and sessions judge (ADJ) Ramkumar Chaubey.
The former minister's lawyer submitted that several others accused in the case had got bail. However, the court rejected the bail plea on the grounds that Sharma was facing charges in a case as serious as PEB scam, and that there were accusations of him being involved in selection of many candidates illegally.
The court maintained that there was evidence against Sharma and hence he couldn't be granted bail. Sharma is lodged in Bhopal Central Jail.
