Former cricketer Virender Sehwag is ‘sold on Gold’. Sehwag tweeted his reaction to the new sports drama, starring Akshay Kumar, on Monday. Akshay reportedly hosted a special screening of the film for sportspersons on Sunday, the 70th anniversary of India’s first Olympic gold medal win in hockey.

“Totally sold on watching Gold. Wonderful, inspiring film. Thank you, Akshay Kumar,” Sehwag wrote on Twitter, alongside a picture of his family - wife Aarti and two sons - posing with the star. In the movie, Akshay plays manager Tapan Das, who led India to its first Olympic gold as an independent nation in a fictional 1948. The Sunday screening also saw legendary hockey player Balbir Singh in attendance.

Akshay celebrated the anniversary with a special video featuring Indian sporting greats such as Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Abhinav Bindra, Sania Mirza and Sunil Chhetri. In another publicity move, Akshay shared pictures of popular monuments in cities such as Kolkata, Pune, Jaipur, Kanpur, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Delhi that had been given a golden hue and were bathed in gold-coloured light in the evening.

Gold, directed by Reema Kagti, also marks TV actor Mouni Roy’s Bollywood debut and features Amit Sadh, Kunal Kapoor, Vineet Singh in supporting roles. The film will clash at the box office with John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate.
