Fresh off the release of his international film Victoria And Abdul, actor Ali Fazal has started working on his upcoming web series. The actor, who plays a UP-based gangster in his next project titled Mirzapur, had a tough time getting the dialect right, but the locals helped him out.
“The interesting thing about the local dialect in Varanasi is that in this region, no one really teaches you as a tutor. One has to witness it in person and absorb, and that’s what I did,” says Ali, who celebrated his birthday on October 15 in Varanasi.
The actor, who has recently signed a Hollywood biopic, shed his celebrity image and decided to get involved with the locals by striking regular conversations with them.
“I came ahead of the schedule, spent time moving around and speaking to the locals, and then picked up the diction, accent, and nuances of the dialect to adapt into the role,” he says.
It was an “enriching” experience for Ali, says a source close to the actor. “Ali is always game for learning something new in an out of the box way. He was really amused that the dialect came naturally to him after interacting with the locals,” says the source.
