In 2012, the song ‘Paani da rang’ from Vicky Donor became very popular, largely thanks to Ayushmann Khurrana, who sang and co-composed the song with friend Rochak Kohli. The duo has delivered a few more hits since, but Ayushmann is now composing solo.

The actor-musician is a music director in his next, directed by Vibhu Puri. "Since I’ve composed and sung Mirza Ghalib’s ghazal, ‘Dil-e-nadaan’, I’ve been credited as a music director. This is the first time that I have composed a song on my own, and it was a satisfying experience. This is how it’s going to be in the future. I’ll compose a few tracks independently, and others in partnership with Rochak," he says.

For this track, Ayushmann has given a modern spin to Ghalib’s famous ghazal. The film is a biopic based on the life of Maharashtrian scientist Shivkar Bapuji Talpade, who, in 1895, is believed to have constructed and flown India’s first unmanned airplane. Since the story is set only a few decades after Ghalib’s death in 1869, the poet’s work was still popular in the time period depicted in the film.
