Bollywood martini at Canada hotel

As the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards take off in Canada today, host city Toronto’s historic Fairmont Royal York Hotel has gone desi.

As the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards take off in Canada today, host city Toronto’s historic Fairmont Royal York Hotel has gone desi. The hotel, which will host the Bollywood stars, has rechristened itself as Fairmont ‘Raja’ York Hotel and created a cocktail called ‘Raj Kapoor martini’ for its guests. The idea to rename the legendary hotel for the IIFA week came from Toronto’s known Indophile and travel writer, Mariellen Ward. The hotel has also turned its York’s Deli into Delhi Deli with new menu items for the three-day show.

The new menu items, according to Melanie Coates, public relations director at the hotel, are “inspired by everything from tangy Bombay street snacks to home style curries with distinctive flavours and authentic recipes using the finest and freshest ingredients the Delhi deli way. Items such as chai, samosas, pakoras and more are on the menu.’’
