Shah Rukh Khan

A post shared by Karan Johar (@karanjohar) on

Actor Shah Rukh Khan is a people’s person and is known to be friends with most stars in Bollywood. However, two people who have stood by him through thick and thin are his closest pals — filmmakers Karan Johar and Farah Khan. KJo and SRK have shared a close bond since 1995, when the iconic film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was being made. Karan Johar was an assistant to DDLJ’s director, Aditya Chopra, and even had a cameo in the film, playing the role of Shah Rukh’s friend. The two instantly hit it off, and Karan has gone on the record to say that he is the godfather of SRK’s children Aryan (19) and Suhana (17). The besties have worked together on blockbuster films such as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001) and My Name Is Khan (2010). While there were reports of a fallout between them in 2014, because SRK refused to appear on Karan’s talk show, Koffee with Karan, the two rubbished such rumours, and their friendship is still going strong.

A post shared by Farah Khan Kunder (@farahkhankunder) on

As for choreographer-filmmaker Farah Khan, she first met Shah Rukh in 1994 on the sets of the film Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na. Later, Farah made her directorial debut with Shah Rukh in Main Hoon Na (2004) and, subsequently, Om Shanti Om (2007) and Happy New Year (2014). SRK is known to gift high-end expensive gifts to people close to him, and he has gifted Farah two luxury cars — a Mercedes GL350 SUV and Hyundai Terracan.

Ranbir Kapoor

Director Ayan Mukerji, who directed Ranbir Kapoor in two of the biggest films of his career — Wake Up Sid! (2009) and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) — turns out to be his best buddy, too. The two are often spotted hanging out at various nightspots in Mumbai. It isn’t a surprise that Ranbir has agreed to star in Ayan’s next directorial outing, tentatively titled Dragon, which will also feature actor Alia Bhatt. The duo celebrate festivals together and last year, they were spotted at a Durga Puja pandal.

***

Ranveer Singh

Actor Ranveer Singh has declared it umpteen times that he is madly in love with his BFF, actor Arjun Kapoor, and their bromance has always been the hottest talk of the town. Ever since they starred in the film Gunday (2014) and later appeared on filmmaker Karan Johar’s chat show — not once, but twice — they have left everyone awestruck with their infectious friendship. Ranveer even revealed in an interview that they keep talking sh*t and message nonsense to each other on chats, and that they have so much in common that they never run out of topics. He also added that when Arjun enters the room, he lights up like a thousand watt bulb. The two lovingly call each other ‘baba’.

Karan Johar

#childhoodbesties

A post shared by Karan Johar (@karanjohar) on

Filmmaker Karan Johar is close to quite a few actors and some directors, too, but if there’s anyone he can count on without thinking twice, it’s actor-writer Twinkle Khanna (wife of actor Akshay Kumar) and interior designer Gauri Khan (wife of Shah Rukh Khan). Twinkle and Karan’s friendship goes back to their school days, which she herself revealed on his talk show. Karan went to the same boarding school in which Twinkle studied, though for a brief period of time. Karan has confessed that he was in love with Tina (Twinkle) during their teenage years, and said in an earlier interview, “There was no shock or surprise that she went on to become such a popular cult figure [in] pop culture writing so soon. In all, she made a huge impact with her columns... and subsequently, her book comes out which is worth more than just reading. It’s like entertainment unplugged, just like Twinkle Khanna always is.”

Gauri Khan and Karan first met in 1994 when Shah Rukh Khan had taken Gauri along for the shoot of his film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in Switzerland. So strong is the duo’s friendship that Gauri, who is a celebrity interior designer, created the nursery for Karan’s twins — Yash and Roohi. For those who don’t remember, KJo also had Kajol as his all-time BFF, but friction developed between them and they went on to make nasty comments about each other. KJo even put a mention of this in his book, An Unsuitable Boy.

A post shared by Alia ✨⭐️ (@aliaabhatt) on

Actor Alia Bhatt’s Instagram feed is flooded with goofy pictures with her best friend Akansha Ranjan Kapoor, who does not belong to the film industry. However, Akansha’s sister, Anushka Ranjan, made her acting debut in the film Wedding Pullav (2015). Alia and Akansha love taking selfies together, and frequently take off for impromptu vacations. In April this year, Alia and Akansha were spotted at an airport, leaving for a holiday, and their photo went viral in no time. Their friendship is rock solid and that’s why Alia, despite having an extremely hectic schedule, drove down from Jhansi (where she was shooting for her film Badrinath Ki Dulhania in September 2016) for eight hours straight to Lucknow, from where she caught a flight to Mumbai. Hours after landing in Mumbai, she hopped on to another flight to Spain... to surprise her closest pal on her birthday!

The two have known each other for over two decades now. Last year, Aishwarya took time off from her schedule and attended the launch of Zirak’s book, Parenting in the Age of Anxiety, as the chief guest. “We have been confidants and best friends for more than half our lives. Her most special quality as a friend is her undying loyalty, which also comes from being a Scorpio. She is dedicated and committed to everything in her life, even to friendship. In spite of our lives going in such different directions and with our respective schedules, we always touch base on special occasions and, time permitting, we meet in Mumbai,” Zirak was quoted as saying.

While promoting his recently released film Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Varun revealed that Kavish used to call him Badri (which was his character’s name in the film) ever since they became friends. “My best friend Kavish actually calls me that, because we had this inside joke between us that if I never made it in Hindi cinema, I can totally fit in Bhojpuri cinema. Aamir’s friendship with Salman goes way back to 1994, when they starred together in the cult classic, Andaz Apna Apna, and since then they have been pretty vocal about their friendship. Interestingly, both have promoted each other’s projects aggressively. In 2014, while promoting Salman Khan’s film, Jai Ho, Aamir tweeted a photo of the two actors, and captioned it as: “Do dost ek jhaad pe susu kartein hain toh dosti badti hai ...1 day to go...
