Dhanush wanted to be an engineer initially

“I didn’t want to be an actor. I was very shy. But my father pushed me and encouraged me to pursue acting. And I am thankful to him that he did. He knew his son so well,” says the son of Tamil filmmaker Kasthuri Raja.

And his father definitely knew the genius in his son. Dhanush became the youngest male lead to be conferred a National Award for Best Actor for his Tamil film, Aadukalam, when he was just 27. But Dhanush doesn’t let fame or success go to his head.

“Yes, I did. But there will be someone winning it at a much younger age, soon,” says Dhanush calmly, who knew he didn’t fit the ­definition of a ­conventional hero. “I was aware of my looks and my physique, but I knew script is the real hero. That’s why I waited and read about 30 scripts before I signed up Shamitabh, my second Hindi film,” he says.
