Lately, Bollywood seems to be high on sequels and franchises. And Dhadkan (2000) director, Dharmesh Darshan, is the latest to hop on to the bandwagon. He, along with producer Ratan Jain, who is also the co-founder of Venus Movies, has decided to make a sequel of the Akshay Kumar- Shilpa Shetty- Suniel Shetty-starrer, which was a hit at the box-office.

Talking about the new project, Dharmesh says, “Ratanji has been telling me for a while to make Dhadkan 2. I didn’t want to make a sequel like everyone else. Most sequels are of action or comedy films. This will be one of the first romantic films to have a sequel.”

The director is, in fact, back in the industry after a break. “I lost my parents in the last four years, so I took a sabbatical. But before that, for 16 years, I was a part of the industry and have directed films like Lootere (1993), Raja Hindustani (1996) and Bewafaa (2005), among others.”

The director is hesitant to divulge many details about the sequel. The story will be a romantic one, but will not take off from where Dhadkan ended. It will be a fresh story. However, it won’t be a wannabe romantic film. I can’t divulge any other details besides this,” says Dharmesh.

“As a director, I want to reinvent myself and make my presence felt again. The subject and the music of the film excite me,” the director adds. So will the sequel also feature Akshay, Suniel and Shilpa, the star cast of the first film? “I can’t talk about the cast right now,” says Dharmesh.
