From cliched camera angles to whistle-worthy moves of the protagonist straight from the 80s, Prakash Jha’s latest Jai Gangaajal, is packed with everything that made films hit three decades ago. But will they work in this era? The first trailer of Jha’s sequel to his 2003 hit film Gangaajal, was released on Tuesday evening. This time, Priyanka Chopra replaces Ajay Devgn as the honest, upright cop posted to a village.

The first trailer of Jai Gangaajal, Prakash Jha’s sequel to his 2003 hit film Gangaajal, was released on Tuesday evening. This time, Priyanka Chopra replaces Ajay Devgn (SP Amit Kumar) as the honest, upright cop posted to a village. And, in a major casting coup, Jha has stepped into the shoes of Mukesh Tiwari (Bachcha Yadav).

The 2.48-minute-long trailer introduces us the other central characters of the film: Priyanka Chopra plays Abha Mathur, a law-abiding cop putting up a valiant fight against village goons and local politicians. We also see her trying to motivate her colleagues who’ve lost their faith in the system.

From cliched camera angles to ‘whistle-worthy’ moves of the protagonist straight from the 80s, Prakash Jha’s latest Jai Gangaajal, is packed with everything that made films hit three decades ago. But will they work in this era?

Talking about her role in the film, Priyanka had earlier said, “I am playing a cop. It is a very special film, not because of the role. I am playing what Ajay Devgn played in the first part. It is just that the issue has changed. We are highlighting corruption, land mafia, farmer suicides and how people are forced to kill themselves. It is a great story. Prakash Jha is the best person to tell this -phenomenal story. He is very educated. Women cops are not taken seriously ... It is a relevant film.”

With dialogues like, ‘Jab khaki ka rang sahi ho to mard pehne ya aurat, tum jaise logo ko uski sahi aukat bata hi deti hai’ and ‘Masti se jeena hai to kabhi apna image banane hi mat do, bada mushkil hota hai dhona’, the film will definitely be a huge melodramatic saga.

The film is set to release on March 4, 2016.
