Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham actor Vikas Sethi on fading into oblivion: I was broke, depressed
Once a popular TV actor with a big film credit to his name - he played Kareena Kapoor’s batch mate in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, actor Vikas Sethi disappeared into oblivion. Here’s why.
Vikas Sethi, who has played several negative characters on television, and found fame after a supporting role in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, is looking to make a comeback in showbiz after self-sabotaging his career.
“Mine wasn’t a break, it was more like fading into oblivion,” he told Times of India in a recent interview. But now, he says, “I have changed my looks and lost weight.”
The actor admits that he made mistakes in his youth, but he says that he was 21 then. “Yes, I have made mistakes, but isn’t that human?” he asks. According to SpotboyE, in his worst phase, the actor was “suffering monetarily and was clinically depressed.”
About his disappearance - the actor’s last credited role, according to IMDb, was the show Sanskaar Laxmi in 2011 - Vikas says that he was mostly to blame. “Honestly, the industry didn’t throw me out, I threw myself out,” he says. He credits his wife, Jhanvi Rana, for standing by him and being a constant source of support.
Once upon a time, Vikas boasted of appearances in the biggest shows of the time - Kasauti Zindagii Kay and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. But when things dried up, “Friends who would stand outside my home, requesting me to party with them, distanced themselves when I wasn’t doing anything,” he says. “I also realised that there are no permanent friends in this industry,” he continued.
Vikas says that all he wants to do now is to ‘establish myself again... with strong negative character.’
He says that while success can take you to great heights, one must not lose focus. “If you lose even a bit of spark, you will become history,” he says.
