Plabita Borthakur: Priyangi and Parineeta helped me settle down in Mumbai and guided my acting career
Lipstick Under My Burkha actor Plabita Borthakur say how her elder siblings, assistant director Priyangi Borthakur and actor Parineeta Borthakur, have her back, and help her navigate the world of entertainment.
Making your space in Bollywood and also in the city where the industry thrives, Mumbai, takes time. Actor Plabita Borthakur of Lipstick Under My Burka (2007) fame considers herself lucky that she had her elder sisters, assistant director Priyangi Borthakur and actor Parineeta Borthakur, who helped her settle down. They also guided her in her career.

“The journey wouldn’t have been this easy without them. Their help and guidance are the reason I could sail through. From choosing scripts, ads etc, they always helped me with ideas and helped me to take my decision. I even rehearse my scenes with them at home. Also, I get to wear their clothes whenever I want to flaunt something new,” jokes the actor.

While Priyangi has been an assistant director for Sriram Raghavan’s Badlapur (2015) and is now an entrepreneur, Parineeta is a known face in TV and Hindi and Assamese films. Parineeta, who is a part of an ongoing TV show, has earlier been part of shows such as Swaragini - Jodein Rishton Ke Sur, Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani, and the films Barood (2004), Saas Bahu Aur Sensex (2008), and Force (2009).
About the tips her siblings have given her, Plabita shares that they have always encouraged her to take risks. “Well, they had just told me to have patience and to keep trying. Time is very important and being able to do the right kind of work is also something they asked me to keep in mind,” says the actor, who is shooting her next film directed by Kumud Chaudhary, co-starring Akshay Oberoi.
She says that having two elder sisters in the industry has helped her, but the journey is all her own. “I am growing every day. There so much I need to understand and learn… Right now, I’m just enjoying the process,” adds Plabita.
