Sonam won the ‘WTF was that’ award for her film Mausam, for not exchanging phone numbers with Shahid Kapoor’s character for 10 years. The actor, who was the only nominee to attend the event, got a thumbs up on microblogging site Twitter for taking it on the chin.

Industry experts say that more celebrities should turn up for these events. “I think it’s extremely sporting of her and she took it in the right spirit. Bollywood stars, generally speaking, can’t laugh at themselves. They tend to take themselves too seriously. It was refreshing of Sonam to turn up and show that she can take a joke,” says film critic Rajeev Masand, also on the jury of the awards. Karan Anshuman, founder of the Ghantas, says, “We had invited her and she accepted. It was a big surprise and a big deal that she came, when no one else did.”

Sonam says that she took the award in the right spirit. “I went because it’s good to have a sense of humour and not take myself too seriously.”
