Sensex, Nifty end week in red; auto, bank stocks major laggards
The markets adopted a wait and watch mode ahead of Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s media address at 4pm.
Indian indices ended marginally lower after erasing most of the intraday losses on Friday and Nifty managed to close a little above the 9100-level.

This is the second straight week that the Indian equity indices ended in the red.

The S&P BSE Sensex was down 25.16 points or 0.08% at 31097.73 and Nifty was down 5.90 points or 0.06% at 9136.85. However, both the indices pared initial losses.
The Sensex ended 1.7% lower for the week, for the second straight time, with the top three gainers being auto stocks.
On the sectoral front, auto, bank, IT, pharma remained under pressure, while metal, energy and infra witnessed buying.
As many as 23 stocks out of 30 Sensex stocks were trading in negative territory. M&M was the top loser, down 4.70%, followed Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and IndusInd Bank.
Bharti Airtel, Asian Paints, Tata Steel, HUL and RIL were among top Sensex gainers.
The Nifty Metal index ended as the only sectoral gainer, ending higher by 1.4% as other indices ended with losses between 0.1-1.7%.
M&M, Zee Ent, Axis Bank, UPL and Bharti Infratel were among major losers on the Nifty and among the gainers were Vedanta Ltd, Bharti Airtel, BPCL, Asian Paints and Tata Steel.
