Biocon’s Shaw, Sobha Developers’ PNC Menon join The Giving Pledge

NEW DELHI: Biopharma firm Biocon CMD Kiran Mazumdar Shaw and real estate major Sobha Developers founder PNC Menon along with his wife Sobha featured in the list of The Giving Pledge, a philanthropic initiative started by legendary investor Warren Buffet, former Microsoft chairman Bill Gates and his wife Melinda.

The Pledge announced the addition of 17 new individuals and families since June 2015, bringing the total number of signatories to 154, from 16 nations.

“My philanthropic efforts are directed towards making a difference to global healthcare,” Shaw said in a statement.

According to Forbes, Shaw has a net worth of $1.42 billion, and was ranked the 85th most powerful women in the world. Menon, the 91st richest Indian in 2015, has an estimated wealth of $1.53 billion.

“Based on my experience, the act of giving creates a degree of happiness that is immeasurable,” Menon said.

Wipro chairman Azim Premji also features in the list, and has devoted half of his wealth.
