Global Companies turn to Bengaluru for remote AI talent as hiring surges: Report

The companies which are flocking to hire such talent from India originate from places like the US, the UK, Singapore, Sweden, Germany, and Canada.

Karnataka's Bengaluru has become the fourth most hired-from city in the Asia-Pacific region for remote artificial intelligence (AI)-related jobs as global companies increasingly scout for talent in India.

These companies which originate from places like the US, the UK, Singapore, Sweden, Germany, and Canada, according to an Economic Times report which cited data from global HR company Deel.

They are hiring Indians for full-time, contractual and freelance roles which are remote in nature since this nearly halves their costs as there are no immigration struggles.

The global demand for AI talent in India is also expected to more than double from 600,000 in 2022 to over 1,250,000 by 2027, according to the report.

The US specifically saw a 135 per cent year-on-year growth in hiring from India in 2024, while Germany and Singapore have also grown remote hiring from India by 50 per cent.

The most in-demand roles are of AI researchers and data scientists with expertise in computer vision, machine learning, natural language processing, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), model training, fine-tuning, and so on, according to the report.

The roles at junior levels include that of prompt engineers, AI artists, and video editors.

The jobs are benefitting the Indian workers too since they can earn double the median pay as compared to local roles, with Deel reporting an average of $25,000 in annualized compensation for remote workers as compared to $13,000 for non-remote, local work.

As a result, remote-working platforms like Upwork, Appen, Fiverr are seeing an explosion in demand for AI-skilled workers from India, especially since companies may have projects that require more than a million rows of data delivered in a week, as per the report.
