A day after low cost carriers SpiceJet, Indigo and GoAir launched a fare war, Jet Airways, the country’s second-largest airline with a 24.6% market share, on Tuesday announced 70-75% discounts on tickets booked till February 27 for travel between March 27 and September 30, 2014.
SpiceJet, IndiGo and GoAir are offering similar discounts for travel between April 1 and June 30. Air India, travel agents said, is matching the discounted fares in some sectors.
Experts, however, said the airlines were offering only a limited number of discounted tickets per flight and that the discounts varied depending on the date of travel. So, while a Delhi-Goa ticket costing Rs 3,737 is easily available in June, they are much more expensive for flights in April and May.

“Because of the limited number of discounted tickets, a family of five wanting to travel together, may not get tickets on the same flight,” said Rajji Rai, chairman, Swift Travel International, a leading travel agency.
“The number of seats being offered at a discount will be different on different flights,” said Sharat Dhall, president, Yatra.com.
“We have recorded an overall growth of 253% in the last 24 hours. The phenomenal growth in certain sectors has surpassed all expectations,” he said.
