Petrol and diesel prices hiked again. Check new rates in your city

On Wednesday, petrol and diesel became costlier by 25 and 13 paise a litre respectively.

After a one-day pause, fuel prices across India were on Wednesday hiked yet again, with prices of a litre of petrol and diesel being raised by 25 paise and 13 paise respectively. This is the 25th hike in fuel rates in more than six weeks.

With this, petrol has reached ₹96.66 per litre in Delhi, while an equal quantity of diesel is available at ₹87.28. In Mumbai, a litre each of petrol and diesel is retailing at ₹102.82 and ₹94.84 respectively, which means that among the four metros, fuel is at its costliest in the country’s financial capital. Chennai, with petrol at ₹97.91 a litre and diesel at ₹92.04 a litre is next. Among the four cities, Kolkata has the cheapest petrol at ₹96.58 per litre while a litre of diesel is at ₹90.25.

The cost of petrol and diesel in other major cities are as follows: ₹99.89 per litre and ₹92.66 per litre (Bengaluru), ₹100.46 and ₹95.28 (Hyderabad), ₹102.42 and ₹92.99 (Pune), and ₹93.98 and ₹87.89 (Noida).

On Monday, when prices were hiked for a 24th time since May 4, petrol became costlier by 29 paise per litre while diesel went up by 13 paise a litre.

Overall, petrol and diesel have crossed the ₹100 per litre mark in several cities. Rajasthan’s Ganganagar has the highest fuel rates in the country as one litre of petrol here is being sold at ₹107.79 while the corresponding figure for diesel is ₹100.51.

In India, fuel prices are reviewed daily and revised by oil marketing companies like Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum. This practice began in June 2017; before that the prices were reviewed and revised on a fortnightly basis. Fuel rates are revised every morning at 6am.
