Toyota teases Urban Cruiser EV as its first electric SUV for India
Toyota has teased the Urban Cruiser EV ahead of its January 19 unveiling, confirming its India debut as the brand’s first electric SUV.
The Urban Cruiser EV is based on the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, which is yet to be launched in India. As seen with other rebadged models sold by Toyota in the country, the electric SUV will share its core design, platform and hardware with the Suzuki counterpart, while featuring a few brand-specific changes.
Globally, the Urban Cruiser EV is already on sale in markets such as the UK. In terms of proportions and overall shape, it is identical to the e Vitara. The similarities are most evident at the rear, where both SUVs look nearly the same.

What’s different on the outside?
The key visual distinction lies at the front. Toyota has redesigned the bumper and grille area, and the Urban Cruiser EV gets swept-back headlamps that give it a more Toyota-specific face. Suzuki badges have also been replaced with Toyota logos across the exterior.
What’s it like on the inside?
Inside, the cabin layout of the Urban Cruiser EV is expected to remain unchanged from the e Vitara. The only visible difference will be the Toyota logo on the steering wheel.
The UK-spec version of the Urban Cruiser EV is offered with an all-black interior theme, which differs from the black-and-tan cabin used in the e Vitara.

What do we know about the battery and price?
The feature list is also likely to mirror that of the e Vitara. This includes dual digital screens comprising a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a JBL sound system, ambient lighting, and a 360-degree camera setup, among other features.
Internationally, the Urban Cruiser EV is available with two battery options: 49 kWh and 61 kWh. Both are paired with a single-motor, front-wheel-drive setup. The smaller battery produces 142 hp, while the larger pack delivers 172 hp.
An all-wheel-drive version with a dual-motor setup and a combined output of 181 hp is also offered overseas, though its India launch remains unconfirmed.
Prices for the Urban Cruiser EV in India are expected to be positioned at the higher end of the midsize electric SUV segment, around ₹20 lakh.
