20-yr-old student among 3 killed in road mishaps

Two men, including an engineering student, were killed in road mishaps at Kharar on Thursday, while a physically challenged lost his life in an accident in Chandigarh.

Forty-four-year-old Bhupinder Singh, resident of Khanpur, was killed when an allegedly speeding Mercedes sedan hit his Bullet motorcycle at the Khanpur T-point in Kharar. He was rushed to the civil hospital in Kharar, from where he was referred to PGIMER in Chandigarh, but was declared brought dead. The police booked the driver of the car, Baldev Raj. The victim was a businessman and is survived by his wife and two children. After the post-mortem, the family cremated the body.

In the other tragedy in Kharar, 20-year-old Satvir Singh, a second-year BTech student at Doaba Group of Colleges, died on the spot after his motorcycle was hit from behind by a truck on Landran Road. A resident of Roorkee village in SAS Nagar and the only brother of six sisters, Satvir was on his way to meet his sister is Landran, and his brother-in-law Balbir Singh and father Swaran Singh were riding alongside on a motorcycle. After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family. A case was registered against the truck driver, who fled from the scene.

In Chandigarh's Sector 38, a physically challenged 47-year-old man, Avtar Singh, died in a collision of his special four-wheel scooter with two motorbikes.

Avtar, a resident of Sector 41, was turning towards Sector 38C on a junction when a motorcyclist rammed into him. As Avtar fell, another motorcycle hit him. He succumbed to injuries at the PGIMER. He was working as a businessman's assistant.

Both motorcyclists -- Vishal Thakur and Neeraj -- were arrested and later released on bail.
