After mayor’s initiative, police arrest 30 for gambling in Chd
After city mayor Poonam Sharma ‘busted’ a gambling racket in Sector 26 grain market on Tuesday night, the Chandigarh Police swung into action and arrested 30 gamblers and satta operators from different parts of city on Wednesday.

As many as 25 cases under the Gambling Act have been registered and a sum of Rs 16,975 was recovered from the accused.
Police sources said the drive was initiated after the mayor caught red-handed one of the gamblers in the Sector 26 grain market. The matter was also brought to the knowledge of UT adviser and senior police officers.
A police official said that the accused were arrested under sections of the Gambling Act. The accused were later let off on bail.
The police arrested Dhirender, a resident of Dhanas when he was allegedly playing satta. Pawan Kumar, a resident of Zirakpur was arrested from Sector 25.
10 HELD FOR DRINKING AT PUBLIC PLACE
The police arrested 10 people for consuming liquor at public places. They were arrested under Section 68-1-14 of the Excise Act and later set free on bail.
