A special fund named after the media-coined name for the Delhi gang rape victim — Nirbhaya Fund — is to have R1,000 crore allotted for empowerment initiatives. Another highlight of the budget is an all-women’s bank that is slated to start functioning by October this year with an initial investment of R1,000 crore.

The bank will be managed by women employees and cater primarily to women’s self-help groups and livelihoods. Would these highlights help alleviate women’s problems? Or is this a populist budget that aims to appease the electorate before the 2014 polls? HT City finds out from tricity’s women.
