Burglars struck at two houses in Karkaur village and decamped with cash and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees after breaking open the locks on Saturday night.

The burglary came to light after an empty suitcase was found abandoned near the villages' outskirts. Police have started investigations after registering the complaints.

As per reports, Ramlal, an employee of Dera Bassi municipal council, said the old house of his son Rajinder was found burgled. He added that gold and silver jewellery worth and other valuables besides Rs 35,000 in cash were found missing from the house.

He added that the aforesaid valuables were being kept for the wedding of his daughter. Burglars also broke open the locks of Salinder Singh's house in the village. They decamped with a big suitcase full of jewellery and other valuables.
