People have expressed their resentment over the "unjustified" petrol price hike of Rs 7.50, which is sure cut deep into people's budgets.
Ajay Saini an insurance professional in the city says, "This is a disaster and the government is to be entirely blamed for the inflation. My work is in the field and the rise in petrol price will directly affect the same. The system is to be blamed and if it continues like this all common people would soon be under the poverty line. It has become extremely difficult for a common man to make both ends meet and now this sudden rise is unbelievable."
Like him, many commoners have expressed their frustration over the hike. "This is unbearable. We are going to die," said a local taxi driver, Ranjit Rana of Mohali. "The frequent price hike of fuel along with the inflation has actually overtaken the salary hike of the union government as per the 6th pay commission. In the present situation, there should be another pay commission to tide over this expensive regime," said a central government employee, Parmadeep Singh Bhabat.
Anurag Aggarwal, SAS Nagar based industrialist says the hike in the petrol is the steepest hike till date. We feel helpless…The common man is so oppressed that these hikes are like flogging a dead horse.
Sunil Aggarwal of Sector 12, Panchkula, who drives a motorcycle, said, "This hike will put a lot of pressure on our monthly budget. I am thinking of buying a diesel car to tide over this crisis."
