The Met on Sunday said that December 31 evening could see rains in the plains of the northern region, while the hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir could experience snowfall. Met director Surender Paul, "There is a possibility of light showers and cloudy weather around New Year Eve in Chandigarh and its neighbouring areas." He added that higher reaches in nearby hilly states could experience a spell of snowfall.

Meanwhile, maximum temperature on Sunday was recorded at 18.5 degrees Celsius, minimum at 4.4, the latter being two notches below normal.
