The people of Amritsar and the Congress workers from there have strongly desired that Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh should contest the upcoming parliamentary polls from the LS constituency, AICC member Kuldeep Rathore said on Thursday.
"During my visit to Amritsar constituency, I met a cross-section of people who strongly desired that the Prime Minister should contest from Amritsar. The District and Rural committees of the Congress also passed a resolution supporting Dr Singh's candidature from his hometown Amritsar," Rathore told a press conference in Chandigarh this afternoon.
He said his job was to give feedback from the ground to the high command and added that he had on March 2 submitted a report to them after concluding his week-long tour to Amritsar and Fatehgarh Sahib Lok Sabha constituencies as AICC observer for these two LS segments.
Meanwhile, lashing out at BJP's Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, Rathore alleged that his world was limited to "laughter shows" on TV and claimed that people will reject him in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
"There is great resentment among the people of Amritsar against Sidhu. His world is limited to hosting laughter shows on TV and people are waiting to teach him a lesson at the polls," Rathore, who is also HP Congress' general secretary, said.
