Wheat procurement in Punjab on Thursday crossed an all-time high of 120 lakh tonnes for the central pool. In the past the procurement had touched 110 lakh tonne.
As per reports, the food grains were still arriving in the grain markets. Commenting on the development, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Punjab Adesh Partap Singh Kairon said, "Farmers have made Punjab proud."
By the evening all agencies have procured 1,20,27,264 tonnes of wheat. Till May 10, PUNSUP had procured 27,26,373 tonnes (22.67%), MARKFED procured 26,47,571 tonnes (22.05%), PUNGRAIN procured 26,36,005 tonnes (16.93%), PAIC had procured 13,65,662 tonnes (11.39%) whereas PSWC was able to procure 13,68,595 tonnes (11.32 %) of wheat.
Central government agency Food Corporation of India had been able to procure 18,08,115 tonnes (15.04%).The state government had set up about 1760 procurement centres across Punjab.
