On lookers rushed the three to a nearby private hospital wherein Layashri was declared dead by doctors. She had suffered grave injuries to her head, as she was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The driver of the BMTC bus abandoned the vehicle and fled. However, traffic police from the K R Puram station have traced and arrested him. Traffic cops told the publication that rash driving by the bus driver named Mahendra D N, was the cause of the unfortunate accident.
The driver also underwent a medical examination to ascertain whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol, which turned out to be negative. It is not clear if a case has been filed against the driver. However, the BMTC bus has been seized for further investigation.
