“I will bring back all Akali factions and all leaders who have left the party in the past, on one platform. I appeal to them for unity and will also walk barefoot to them so that we are a united force,” Majithia said in an interview with a media outlet.

Referring to his old colleagues, including former MP Prem Singh Chandumajra, former finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa and MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali, Majithia said, “In jail, I took up the matter with Sukhbir Singh Badal, and he has also shown keen interest in uniting the Akali Dal and having all its leaders back.”

It needs to be mentioned that on August 11 last year, a breakaway faction came into existence formally with the appointment of Giani Harpreet Singh as its president. The faction has started political activities in the state and has also applied for registration as a separate party with the Election Commission.
