Chief secretary orders crackdown on truck unions harassing state industry

Taking serious notice of the harassment caused to the industrial sector by the already dissolved truck unions in the state, the state government led by chief minister Bhagwant Mann has ordered strict action.

The dissolved unions are allegedly harassing state industries by charging more money and imposing their terms and conditions.

Taking note of the problem, the chief secretary Vijay Kumar Janjua along with DGP Gaurav Yadav, held a marathon meeting with senior officials of the transport, industry and police departments. The truck unions were abolished via a notification dated December 13, 2017, issued by the transport department. But unions’ high-handedness was causing enormous implications for the industry and creating a stumbling block, officials said.

The chief secretary directed the transport and police department to ensure strict compliance with the order of dissolution of the truck unions in 2017. The transport department was directed to take stringent action and cancel the permits, while the cooperative department was ordered to de-register such unions that are violating the notification dated December 13, 2017.

The chief secretary also asked the police department to issue instructions to its entire field staff regarding meticulous compliance with the orders. “If a truck operator harasses anyone, the police should register a case immediately. No truck union is allowed to work,” added Janjua.
