Newly-elected AAP MLA from Atam Nagar Kulwant Singh Sidhu checked booths of traffic police to ensure that they were present on duty and showing proper conduct

Before taking oath, newly-elected Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member of legislative assembly (MLA) from Atam Nagar constituency Kulwant Singh Sidhu swung into action and checked booths of traffic police to ensure that they were present on duty and showing proper conduct.

The MLA asked officials to take action against a policeman who was absent from his assigned duty.

The MLA also scanned the belongings of the traffic police personnel in the booths to check if they had concealed any liquor bottles.

Sidhu checked the booths near Atam Nagar Chowk and Dugri, saying police personnel should serve responsibly as the city is already facing the traffic problem. He added that he would conduct more surprise checks in the coming days.

I-T raid at Omaxe residency on Pakhowal Road

Ludhiana With the income-tax (I-T) department carrying out raids on Omaxe Group premises across the country, the real estate developer’s offices on Pakhowal Road also came under officials’ scrutiny on Monday morning.

The raids were carried out at 28 locations in North India, including offices and residential premises, of top company management in Noida, Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Chandigarh. The raids took place at around 6am and paramilitary forces accompanied the I-T department officials. Local property dealers, and developers also reportedly panicked on learning of the raids.

It is learnt that the department is going through the sale and purchase documents of the group, which is under scrutiny for large-scale tax evasion. The raids were still going on at the time of filing of the report.

U-16 Cricket League: LDCA Blues enters finals

Ludhiana LDCA Blues on Monday sealed its place in the finals of the ongoing U-16 junior cricket league at GRD, by defeating LDCA Warriors by 74 runs.

Batting first, LDCA Blues scored 169 runs at the loss of seven wickets in their 35-over innings. Shabd Tangri remained the top scorer with 81 runs, with Savinay Kakkar scoring an important 31 runs for the team.

Meanwhile, Karanveer of the Warriors’ bowling lineup took four wickets conceding 30 runs. Raghav, Hasanjeet and Shubhamdeep took a wicket each against Blues.

Chasing the target, LDCA Warriors could only score 122 runs at the loss of eight wickets in 35 overs.Both Ishmeet Gahir and Shivesh Narula of Warriors scored 30 runs each for the Warriors. Sajan, Paras and Vishal took two wickets each.

You Tuber creates ruckus outside financial firm

Ludhiana Singer and You Tuber Neetu Shatran Wala, who has twice contested the assembly elections unsuccessfully, created a ruckus outside a financial firm, accusing it of duping him of ₹1 lakh on the pretext of helping him in availing loan of ₹10 lakh. The You Tuber, who has not yet filed an FIR against the firm, said when he came to the firm’s office to get his money back on Monday, the company staffers manhandled him and pushed him out of the office.

Grocery store manager hangs self

Ludhiana A grocery store manager hung himself at a tea stall adjoining his store on Dugri Road on Sunday. The victim’s family said that he had been disturbed over some monetary issues for some time. The body was sent to the civil hospital for the postmortem. The manager’s death came to light when his family went to the store searching for him on Monday morning, after he did not return home the previous night. Sub-inspector Madhu Bala, SHO at Model Town police station said no suicide note was found.

2 mobile phones recovered from jail inmate

Ludhiana The staff at Ludhiana Central Jail recovered two mobile phones from a jail inmate during a special checking on Sunday. The Division 7 police lodged an FIR against Rohit Singh on the statement of Binny Tank, assistant superintendent of police under sections of the Prison Act. The police will bring the accused on a production warrant for questioning to know how he managed to procure the mobile phones in the jail.

2 test Covid +ve

Ludhiana The district logged two fresh coronavirus cases on Monday. The district’s Covid count increased to 1,09,745, of which 1,07,434 patients recovered and 2,277 succumbed to the virus. At present, there are 34 active cases in the district, of which 32 are under home isolation and the two are undergoing treatment in different hospitals. The administration has urged the residents to continue taking precautions.
