Man whistles at woman having pizza at Mohali eatery, held

A Muktsar resident was arrested for whistling and catcalling a woman having pizza at an eatery in City Park, Sector 68, on Wednesday.

The woman, who hails from Patiala, said she was having pizza at the eatery, when the accused, who was sitting at a nearby table, started whistling and making objectionable hand gestures. On being confronted, he hurled abuses at her and grabbed her hand, while threatening her of dire consequences.
He appeared to be drunk, said the woman, who was helped by onlookers in restraining the accused. When a patrolling police team reached the scene, the accused allegedly punched one of the cops too.
Gurwinder was booked under Sections 294 (obscene acts and songs) and 354-A (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code at the Phase-8 police station. Section 294 entails imprisonment up to three months, while a jail term of up to three years can be awarded under Section 354-A.
