Scooterist killed in hit-and-run near Chandigarh’s Dhanas Lake

A hit-and-run accident near Dhanas Lake claimed the life of a scooterist, police said on Thursday.

Chandigarh Police have registered an FIR under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. (HT File)

The victim, Arvind Kaushal, was riding a Honday Activa (CH-01-AA-6858) on April 7 when a Toyota Innova car (PB-01-F-2568) hit him and fled the spot.

Passers-by rushed Arvind to Fortis Hospital, Mohali, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Chandigarh Police have registered an FIR under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Sector-11 police station against the absconding car driver.

Police said efforts were underway to identify and trace the driver. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined and further investigation is in progress.
