Four persons have washed away in separate incidents in Dehradun, Pithoragarh and Pauri districts of Uttarakhand in the last 24 hours as the water level increased in rivers due to rains in the state, police said on Monday.

In Pauri district, two youngsters were washed away in Dakulya Gadera rivulet while they had gone to bathe near the Bhiradangu area in Pauri district. The revenue police along with the police reached the spot and recovered the bodies of the deceased and sent them for post-mortem.

“The incident occurred on Sunday evening when four people had gone for bathing in the Dakulya Gadera and out of four only two persons entered the rivulet for bathing but were washed away in the strong current, said DP Kala, district disaster management officer, Pauri.

He said the deceased have been identified as Pramod Singh, 32, and Mohit, 34, both hailing from Pauri district.

In Pithoragarh district, a man died in the Dharchula subdivision of the district after he slipped into a 100 metre-deep gorge while on his way to his home from another village, said the Dharchula police.

“The police team on Monday recovered the body of Rahul Singh, 42, a resident of Syakuri village of Dharchula subdivision who died after he slipped from the pedestrian road track, between Jumma and Syankuri villages. The incident happened on Sunday evening but the locals were able to inform us about it on Monday morning,” said Kunwar Singh, in charge of the Dharchula police station.

In Dehradun district, one person was washed away in an overflowing drain near Mauja Azaad Nagar due to heavy rains in Sadar Tehsil.

Meanwhile, scores of roads were blocked due to landslides and boulder fall in the state after heavy overnight rains.

Around three state roads, one major district road and 10 rural roads were closed for traffic in Dehradun district while 24 roads were closed in Chamoli district.

In Uttarkashi district, 15 rural roads were closed for traffic while the Gangotri- Dharasu road was blocked partially due to a landslide near Thirang and the work was on to provide safe passage to the Kanwariyas on Monday.

“The Dharasu Gangotri highway was blocked due to boulder fall near Thirang after which PWD NH division officials were rushed to the spot to open it for traffic,” said Devendra Patwal, district disaster management authority, Uttarkashi..

In Pauri district, around 23 roads were closed for traffic in the district and PWD employees were working to reopen the roads by clearing the mud debris. In Rudraprayag district, 14 rural roads and 2 state highways were blocked due to landslide and mud debris accumulation.

Uttarkashi-Tehri-Ghansali-Mayali-Tiwada road, which was blocked on July 6 due to the damage to the 21-metre span steel bridge, is still closed for traffic.

Meanwhile, the power supply was disrupted in Munsiyari rural area due to a damage to the 11 KV power line due to lightning.

Meanwhile, Indian Meteorological Department, Dehradun, has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh and Rudraprayag districts for the next two days and it has advised all district officials to remain prepared for any eventuality.
