Delhi Election 2024 Highlights: 56% voter turnout in phase 6 of Lok Sabha polls

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Raghav Chadha on Saturday urged the people of Delhi to cast their votes during the sixth phase of Lok Sabha election today. “Vote for better education, health, transport and strengthening democracy. It is very hot, but don't miss out on voting because of this. Jai Hind!” he said.

Delhi minister Atishi on Saturday cast her vote at a polling booth in the national capital during the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections.

Atishi also appealed all the people of Delhi to exercise their franchise. “I have just come after casting my vote. I appeal to all the people of Delhi to come and cast their votes,” she said.

“We have just cast our vote and I was the first male voter in this booth. We want people to come out and cast their votes as this is a decisive moment for the country,” he said after exercising his franchise.

BJP Lok Sabha candidate Bansuri Swaraj on Saturday offered prayers at Jhandewalan temple ahead of phase six polling. She is contesting election against AAP MLA Somnath Bharti from the New Delhi seat.

Voting in all seven Lok Sabha seats in the national capital has begun. The polling will conclude by 6 pm today.

New Delhi: AAP MLA Somnath Bharti is up against BJP’s Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of the late Sushma Swaraj. Bansuri Swaraj is leveraging her mother's legacy, while Bharti banks on AAP’s local governance appeal to win the high-profile seat.

North East Delhi: Congress’ Kanhaiya Kumar is contesting against two-time MP Manoj Tiwari from the North East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. What makes the battle more interesting is both Manoj Tiwari and Kanhaiya Kumar hail from Bihar and would be eyeing a major chunk of Purvanchali votes to get ahead in the race.

East Delhi: The BJP dropped sitting MP Gautam Gambhir's name for the East Delhi contest after the latter requested BJP national president JP Nadda to relieve him of political duties as he wanted to focus on his cricket commitments. The BJP has fielded Harsh Malhotra 60, an LLB, to take on AAP candidate Kuldeep Kumar, 35, a sitting MLA from the Kondli assembly constituency.

Delhi comprises seven Lok Sabha constituencies-New Delhi, North East Delhi, East Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, North West Delhi and Chandni Chowk.

The North East Delhi constituency is among the keenly watched seats in this election.

The weather department has issued a 'yellow' alert as it predicted the mercury to reach a maximum of 44 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 31 degrees Celsius. However, there is no prediction for a heat wave.

The commuters coming from Sarai Kale Khan/MGM side towards NH-24 will go straight towards Akshardham flyover and will take left turn to reach towards Pusta Road / ITO / Vikas Marg to reach their destinations. The party won each seat with a vote share of well over 50%, and received 56.85% of all votes. In contrast, the Congress had a vote share of 22.63%, and the AAP, 18.2%.

The BJP dropped all its incumbent MPs in Delhi, except former state unit chief Manoj Tiwari, who represents the North East Delhi constituency. The party dropped Harsh Vardhan (Chandni Chowk), Meenakshi Lekhi (New Delhi), Parvesh Verma (West Delhi) and Ramesh Bidhuri (South Delhi).

Gautam Gambhir (East Delhi) informed the party that he would not be contesting, while Hans Raj Jans (North West Delhi) has been fielded from Faridkot in Punjab.

The Congress party's first family – Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra – will, for the first time, vote for a non-Congress candidate in an election. The Gandhis are registered voters under the New Delhi seat, which has gone to the AAP under the seat-sharing deal.

AAP's Somnath Bharti is the joint candidate of the two parties and is up against BJP rival Bansuri Swaraj.
