2 accused knew something was stuck beneath car in Kanjhawala case: Delhi Police

All the six accused were sent to 14-day judicial custody and the court asked Delhi Police to file a reply on the bail application and listed it for further hearing on January 10

Delhi police on Monday informed a Delhi court that they have recovered footage which shows that two of the accused involved in the Kanjhawala case had got down from the car and were aware that something was stuck beneath the car but, refused to disclose the identity in open court.

After hearing the submissions, all the six accused were sent to 14-day judicial custody and the court asked Delhi Police to file a reply on the bail application and listed it for further hearing on January 10.

One of the accused in the case, Ashutosh, moved a bail application.

Advocate Shilpesh Chaudhary appearing for Ashutosh submitted that all offences made out against him are bailable offences.

He also submitted that Ashutosh has been cooperating with police in the investigation.

Metropolitan magistrate Sanya Dalal inquired from the Delhi Police about their findings in the case.

The investigating officer (IO) said they recovered six CCTV footage of which one shows that two of the accused got out of the car to observe something and were aware that something was stuck under the car.

The IO further informed the court that the statements of 20 eyewitnesses have also been recorded.

The judge further inquired as to why the CCTV footage is being recovered one by one and not together.

The IO said the accused were initially not cooperating with the investigation for which they had to take them to the route separately and then together in order to formulate the timeline and retrace the exact route.

It was also informed by the Delhi Police that a new eyewitness also joined the investigation

Advocate Chaudhary also pointed the police are trying to mislead the court as the footage recovered by them which shows five persons having food, one of them is a person named Sahil who has been brought in several times by police for interrogation.

He also submitted that the police have also taken statements of the neighbors of Ashutosh who have claimed that he was with them at the time of the incident.

Additional public prosecutor (APP) Atul Srivastava opposed the submission saying that no one is trying to misguide the court.

Delhi Police had initially arrested Deepak Khanna, Amit Khanna, Krishan, Mithun, and Manoj Mittal in relation to the case where a girl was allegedly hit by a car in the early hours of January 1.

Delhi Police later added the names of Ashutosh and Ankush Khanna as accused for providing false information and harbouring the accused.

Police later arrested Ashutosh who was sent to a three-day police custody on Friday.

Ankush surrendered before the Delhi Police on Friday. He was granted bail on Saturday from Rohini district court as it was found that the offences made out against him were bailable offences.

On New Year’s night in Delhi, a naked body of a woman was found in Delhi’s Kanjhawala area after she was allegedly dragged by a speeding car from Sultanpuri. The woman was riding a scooter which was hit by a car in the early hours on Sunday and the woman was dragged several kilometres under the car.
